A Word from Our Director Looking for God's "New Thing"
Isaiah has wonderful words for us as we prepare to not only greet a New Year but to move forward in our ministries wherever we are. They are found in the Isaiah 43:19 and read as follows: “I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” God is saying clearly to Isaiah, and I believe to each of us, that He wants to do a new thing among us. But as usual, we either do not look for it or even think that it could happen, especially for us or for our congregations! How shortsighted we are! How small is our vision! God is ready and anxiously waiting for us to understand that He longs to make a difference in our lives, in our ministry, in our congregation, in our community, in our world. As you begin this year, you may be involved in a church board/leaders/elders retreat. Len Sweet encourages us to not call these gatherings a “retreat” but rather an “advance.” This may seem like a small thing but it has giant implications. Too often the church has been in retreat so it is time to do some “advance” thinking. I would be glad to hear from any of you on the results of your “advance.” Enjoy the journey because He goes before you and may already be doing the “new thing” in your life. Peace and joy,
