Vision Statement

Create a vision statement that best describes what your congregation's focus is for carrying out it's mission.

BEST SUITED FOR: Any Size Congregation

WHAT'S INVOLVED?

The total time needed for the process may take 1 1/2 - 2 hours.  It could be followed by commission meetings that would concentrate on establishing one or two achievable goals for the next year.

Follow this outline for the meeting.

 

DO'S AND DON'TS

DO......welcome everyone and express your appreciation for their attending this process.

bullet

DO......express your expectation as a facilitator:  Everyone should be involved in the process!

bullet

DO......lead the group in several praise songs.

bullet

DO......lead in prayer after indicating the importance of prayer in this process and in the communication of your vision statement to the congregation.

bullet

DO......allow the Holy Spirit to be your guide throughout the process and celebrate the finished product in a way that seems appropriate.

DO......encourage using the Pastor to preach a series of sermons on the vision statement.

bullet

DO......encourage using the vision statement in their weekly church bulletin and in their newsletters.

bullet

DO......remember that a vision statement is not measurable, goals are measurable.  Goals are established in response to the vision statement.

DO......Prepare a brochure using the vision statement or revise your existing one to include the statement.

A large blackboard available or several sheets of newsprint.

Nametags may be helpful for the resource leader, especially if he/she is not from your congregation or area.
