Covenant of Congregational Participation

We, (church name) _______________________________________________, covenant to be part of the LIFE process, believing our church is called to fulfill Christ's Great Commandment and Great Commission.

We see LIFE–Living in Faithful Evangelism–as an opportunity for our congregation to:

Discover a vision for personal and congregational outreach.

Welcome new people to come to Christ and the church.

Share the joy and blessing of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.

Expand our experience of Christian community among ourselves and with persons new to the faith and the congregation.

Therefore, we enter into this covenant, and we express our commitment in these ways:

1. We commit ourselves to active prayer for the LIFE process and our congregational outreach.
2. We will call two persons to become LIFE congregational co-coordinators to guide us through the process. We will make these co-coordinators ex officio members of our board with vote/ without vote (circle one).
3. We will appoint a self-study task force to complete the community and congregational profile.
4. We are open for the co-coordinators to use a variety of persons and groups in carrying out LIFE activities within or outside the present structure of our congregation.
5. We understand the pastor has a vital role in completing the LIFE process, and we are willing to free our pastor for more time in outreach activities of the church.
6. We will give priority in planning and scheduling to LIFE process events.
7. We will be open to the outside resource of our LIFE advisor/encourager/mentor and to our New Life Ministries congregational advisor.
8. We understand the following to be our financial commitment to LIFE (in U.S. dollars), if initiating the process in the fall:

Budget year one: July-December ______ – $500.00 (module 1)

Budget year two: January-December ______ – $500.00 (modules 2 and 3)

Budget year three: January-June ______ – $250.00 (module 4)

We also understand there will be additional expense for student books that will depend on the number of persons participating. These student books may replace other materials normally purchased (such as regular Sunday school curriculum).

We have made our decision to enter LIFE on the basis of this covenant with a significant majority of our church board and/or congregational business meeting being in harmony and enthusiastic support with the understandings and commitments above.
