Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of the LIFE process is to multiply the number
of persons turning to Jesus Christ by multiplying the number of leaders and
congregations that are spiritually alive and evangelistically effective.
The objectives of the process are as follows:
- To encourage a positive, biblical basis and vision for evangelism, rooted
in prayer and enabling active participants of congregations to come to a
deeper understanding of the biblical imperative to share their faith with
others.
- To create an atmosphere that is truly welcoming to persons from outside a
congregation.
- To train active participants of each congregation in the basic principles
and strategies of faith-sharing, using an approach which is non-manipulative
and which builds on existing friendships.
- To help each congregation identify opportunities for outreach through
service and caring and to carry out at least two such initiatives annually.
- To bring about growth in membership and attendance in each congregation or
to slow the rate of decline where growth is unlikely to happen because of
demographic factors.
- To increase the number of groups with an outreach orientation in each
congregation.
[NOTE: For purposes of these objectives, "active participants" is
defined as those persons in congregations who are usually present at worship
services (at least an average of three Sundays out of four) and who are involved
in at least one activity or service through the church in addition to attendance
at worship. For churches which do not wish to actually calculate the number of
people in this category, a figure of 70% of the average worship attendance will
normally be reasonably close.]
