
Robert Webber, Martin Marty
to keynote AEC 2003 meeting
Mount Joy, Pa.—Robert Webber and Martin Marty will be the
featured speakers at the next Anabaptist Evangelism
Council meeting, February 14-16, 2003, near Chicago. The theme of the
meeting will be on worship.
The announcement was made by S. Joan Hershey, director of New
Life Ministries, sponsor of the council meeting. "We are pleased to have
speakers of the caliber of Robert Webber and Martin Marty for this year's
council," she said.
Robert Webber is the William R. and Geraldyne B. Myers Chair of Ministry
at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, Illinois. He is
recognized as one of the foremost authorities on worship renewal. Webber
has written over 40 books on worship and the church, including The Complete
Library of Christian Worship and Renew Your Church! His most recent
books are
Journey to Jesus: The Worship, Evangelism, and Nurture Mission of the Church
(Abingdon, 2001) and
The Younger Evangelicals: Facing the Challenge of the New World
(Baker, scheduled for September 2002 release).
Prior to his appointment at Northern Baptist, he had taught at
Wheaton College for 32 years as professor of theology.
Webber will serve as the plenary speaker throughout the council
meeting.
Martin E.
Marty is the Fairfax M. Cone Distringuished Service Professor Emeritus
of the History of Modern Christianity at the University of Chicago Divinity
School. He writes a regular column for Christian Century magazine
and is editor of Context. Marty has written numerous scholarly works and
is a much sought after speaker on religion and faith in the contemporary
context. He is also an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America.
Marty will speak for the Friday evening banquet to open the 2003
council meeting.

The Anabaptist Evangelism Council
serves as a think tank,
bringing together the best scholars and practitioners in the field. The
meetings also serve as a networking and information sharing forum. They
have included representatives from both Canada and the United States.
Through the Anabaptist Evangelism Council, New
Life Ministries desires to encourage integral theological reflection,
coherent strategy, and consistent practice geared toward transformation
of society through the Anabaptist Christian witness in North America.
The council has meet annually in February since
1998.
