Booklets available on critique of
Schwarz’s Natural Church Development
MOUNT JOY, Pa. -- Presentations critiquing Christian Schwarz’s Natural Church Development are now available in booklet form from New Life Ministries, sponsor of the second annual Anabaptist Evangelism Council held in Elgin, IL in February.
Theologians taking a close look at Schwarz’s model were Tom Yoder Neufeld, professor of Bible at Conrad Grebel College, Waterloo, Ont. and chair of Religious Studies at the University of Waterloo, who gave a New Testament perspective; Lois Barrett, executive secretary of the Commission on Home Ministries for the General Conference Mennonite Church who took a missiological and ecclesiological approach; and Gerald Shenk, professor of church and society and the newly-named director of development for Eastern Mennonite Seminary who presented a comparative approach to Schwarz.
Summarizing the practitioner’s approach to Schwarz is Ron Waters, assistant professor at Ashland (OH) Theological Seminary, incorporating the thoughts of Noel Santiago, a Mennonite Board of Missions consultant from Souderton, PA, Chris Arney of Abbotsford, B.C., and Ed Boschman of Phoenix, all of whom are already working with Schwarz’s model in nearly 100 churches in their Mennonite, Mennonite Brethren and Brethren constituencies.
The 54-page spiral bound booklet is available for $10, including shipping; a discounted price of $7.50 is available if purchased along with last year’s "Anabaptist Witness in a Post-Modern World"--a 2-booklet package for $15, including shipping.
