LifeQuest Congregational Survey
Increasing numbers of congregations are involved in long-term,
strategic planning. Rather than being victims of demographic circumstances
and past history, these churches look realistically at the present–and
hopefully at the future–in terms of church growth, stewardship, and overall
mission and vision.
Christian Community, in cooperation with New Life Ministries, has worked with
many congregations involved in self-study and strategic planning. We've
developed an instrument called the LifeQuest Congregational Survey which can
provide an excellent foundation for self-study and strategic planning.
Over 1,400 churches have used the process; and more than 250,000 members have
completed the survey. With this database available, Christian Community
can help your church realistically assess current morale, potential areas for
growth, and positive directions for the future.
The minister, a long-range planning committee, the church board, or another
designated group conducts the survey following the guidelines provided.
Congregational-specific items can be added to the survey as needed.
When the survey has been completed, the results are then sent to Christian
Community along with some other information about the church and community. A
consultant studies the results and makes comparisons with the database of
information from other congregations in North America.
Christian Community will return to the church an analysis which generally runs
10-15 pages in length and includes specific recommendations for the future.
The church can clearly see how internal morale and attitudes compare with other
churches around the country and what the implications are for effective
programming.

Profile
For churches interested in doing an even more comprehensive
self-study, Christian Community also offers the LifeQuest Congregational
Profile, which includes the survey above. Completing the entire profile
usually requires three to six months of time for a committee or task force and
in addition to the survey also involves:
• An examination of the church's organizational structure,
Christian education program, worship, and other programs.
• A study of the community in which the church ministers, including interviews
with community resource persons and the identification of opportunities for
ministry.
• An overview of stewardship in the congregation including the identification
of strategies for improving the church's financial base.
• Evaluation of the church's physical plant and other resources.
• A review of the church's outreach-locally and globally.
